Peter Wallyn FCA Cert PFS

After qualifying with one of the large International firms of Chartered Accountants in 1979 my career has taken several turns, the last being about twelve years ago when I merged my firm with Thornton Springer. Since then my fields of interest have diversified, in particular in the charity and not-for-profit sectors, housing associations and professional partnerships. Within the firm I am responsible for the ongoing training needs of all fee earners, including students. With my children now grown up I have more time to devote to my main interest of tennis with a wish also to spend more time on the golf course, clients permitting.

My numerous roles within Thornton Springer include responsibility for the computer network. Happily this indulges one of my main interests and provides me with a platform from which I advise clients on computing matters. My interest in computing extends to most boys’ toys and with the marketplace ever expanding in this field, my future looks assured. When not bashing the keypad I am travelling, particularly in France. With heavy French influence on my wife’s side of the family I have developed a reasonable command of the language. I also travel by bike, though not as often as I would like, nor as often as I used to.

Soon after qualifying aged 21 I commenced practicing as Thornton Springer. My role within Thornton Springer can be broadly defined as a general practice partner. My clients vary in size and type covering a wide spectrum with specialisations in property development, investment businesses and estate agencies. I also have interests in wealth planning for high net worth individuals, Inheritance Tax, Family Trusts and other related issues. My main hobbies include watching Arsenal FC, where I have been a season ticket holder for over 30 years. I also have an interest in motor cars and travel, particularly in the South of France.

After qualifying aged 21 I spent 15 years in industry working for a number of household names, helping to introduce computers into their accounting departments. Armed with my experiences I decided to return to the profession, setting up my own accountancy practice. Using the very first IBM desktop computer I offered computerised bookkeeping, accountancy and audit services. Outside of the practice my hobbies include flying, I have a Private Pilots’ Licence, sailing and walking.

Upon graduating I joined our Lewisham office as a trainee some thirteen years ago.  I qualified in 2002 and was then fortunate enough to be granted a sabbatical, using this time to do some well earned travelling around the world.  My main role within the practice is with our corporate department, servicing a number of our larger limited company and audit clients. I also take pride in assisting and developing new and emerging businesses.  In addition to this I am currently looking to progress further the firm's advertising, marketing and client relations.

Debbie Ankrah LLB(Hons) ATT

Having spent several years working for the Inland Revenue and then smaller firms of Chartered Accountants, I joined the tax department of Thornton Springer in 2000.  At the time I was studying part time for a law degree which I obtained in 2004 and post graduate diploma in law in 2006. With studying out of the way, I was appointed a partner in June 2006 concentrating mainly on small businesses, tax inquiries, property investment and tax planning.  My main hobbies are tennis and skiing both of which I am able to partake in and enjoy with my teenage son.

I joined Thornton Springer in 1991 in order to set up our Independent Financial Services Department. Appointed a full partner in 2001, I am in charge of what has grown to be a flourishing Financial Services Department and am keen to expand this side of our business by ensuring that we offer to all of our clients clear, sensible financial advice in a professional manner and that we as a business maintain the high standards neccasary to fulfill this. I am "well and truly" married with two teenagers at home. Interests outside of work include being a long suffering Bristol City fan, involvement in blowing things up in the Sussex Bonfire tradition, cycling, reading and country walks.

I joined Thornton Springer in 2001 to support the development of the Financial Services department and became a full partner in 2006. My previous financial services experience stems from a career in banking, financial services sales management and as an Independent Financial Adviser. My primary role is to provide clients with Independent Financial Advice and the development of the Mortgage advice service. My interests outside of work include being an active Rugby Union referee, cricket, golf and a new found interest in an allotment. These however are purely interests rather than obsessions, as there is limited time to devote to them after addressing the needs of a wife and 3 children!
